The Genesis of the African Chess Confederation
The genesis of the African Chess Confederation (originally the African Chess Union) began at the 1976 Chess Olympiad in Tripoli, Libya. Visionary delegates from eleven pioneering nations recognized the urgent need for a unified continental body to steward the development of chess, foster cultural exchange through the game of kings, and give Africa a collective, authoritative voice within the World Chess Federation (FIDE).
