The Egyptian Chess Federation and the African Chess Confederation are in final preparations to host the 2026 African Individual Chess Championship (AICC) in Cairo this May.

The championship stands as Africa's premier individual chess event, offering four direct qualifying spots to the prestigious 2027 FIDE World Cup and official Grandmaster (GM) norms for podium finishers.

Defending champion GM Bassem Amin will headline an extraordinary field featuring GM Adly Ahmed, GM Bilel Bellahcene, and rising stars from Nigeria, Algeria, Angola, South Africa, and Madagascar.
